Dorothy Rigg Powell was the second youngest and only surviving daughter of Thomas Townley Rigg and Miranda Gambrel Rigg. She was born on October 12, 1886. Dorothy did not have a middle name and in fact, she named herself Dorothy. When she was born, after so many boys, everyone called her Doll. Then Dolly. Sometime during her school years she chose the name Dorothy for the records but continued to be called Dolly by friends and family. On March 31, 1908, she married Dwight Ira Powell, the son of Jacob Powell and Mary E. Caskey Powell. Dwight and Dorothy were married in Leon, Kansas and then moved to Alberta, Canada where they remained for many years finally moving to the West Coast in the Oregon/Washington area of the country. They had quite a family with 5 boys and 2 girls. After 26 years of marriage, Dwight died at the age of 50 on June 04, 1934 and Dorothy moved to Seattle, Washington, There she lived until her death on July 16, 1956.
