John Dorman Rigg

John

John D. (Jack) Rigg

John Dorman Rigg was the youngest son of Thomas Townley Rigg and Miranda Gambrel Rigg. He was born on July 03, 1889. I have been told through the family grapevine that John was 6 feet 4 inches tall by the time he was eleven years old. I found that quite interesting as his father, Thomas, was only 5 feet 6 inches according to his civil war records from the National Archives. John was also a veteran who served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a sergeant in the 152nd Aero. Squadron. He married Jane May Pomeroy, the daughter of James G. Pomeroy and Jennie A. Austin Pomeroy of Winfield, Kansas on October 23, 1916. Their main place of residence was Hillsdale, Michigan where they resided for 46 years. John worked for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. He was quite active in the Michigan Masonic organization and was also a member of the Golden Shrine Club. John D. (Jack) Rigg died on May 23, 1965 at the age of 75. From newspaper clippings at the time of his death it was evident that he was a highly respected and active member of the community of Hillsdale. His wife, Jane, continued to live in Hillsdale until her death on October 16, 1969. They are both buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Hillsdale, Michigan. They had no children.
